One 100-word paragraph written by the team on teaming and communication (how it progressed between: students, students and the teacher, and students and the technical advisor).

Each member of the group was able to negotiate via email and through social networking. Using these tools made it easier to work with each other by giving us access to share documents as well as editing them. Communicating with teacher was of no problem as well. We could communicate with each the teachers and ask question about the project if necessary. We could also talk to them before and after school. For the technical advisor, communication was through email. They were able to answer any question. The group was very productive and each member was able to work proficiently.

An 100-word paragraph written by the team on research and innovation (what your team learned about researching and innovating a solution to a real world problem).

Plastic is a major pollutant worldwide. Our goal is to convert traditional plastic bags into biodegradable bags. One of the challenges faced is to find a way to control the extraneous pollution during the process of manufacturing. The best method is to use is microwavable energy, heat, to create a less polluting bioplastic product. Another issue is to eliminate the use of the non-renewable resource petroleum found in plastic. The solution to this problem is to use plant-based starch instead. Overall, the group is able to create a plastic bag that is less polluting and more efficient to the environment.

Three lessons your team learned during the program's duration.

  1. The importance of time management and staying organized with all of the tasks

  2. The importance of regular communication and meeting with group member and technical advisors

  3. The importance of creative and innovative thinking when working towards a solution to a problem
